Finding Your Talent

Finding your Talent

Self-awareness

We believe that everyone has talent.

How many times have you seen a child doing something amazing and you’ve commented on what an amazing talent they have?

And how many times have you seen them doing it and felt you could do that too? Or you wish you could do that too?

Everyone is born with at least one talent.

A talent is something that we are capable of doing without it feeling difficult. Mathematics can be very easy for some people, yet very hard for others. Language can be challenging for some people, yet one of my friends can speak more than 15 languages. Some people can move beautifully, some people cannot even understand why those people move like that.

When you are aware of your talent, you are very lucky because many people are not aware of their natural talent.

One reason a person may not have discovered their talent is due to a lack of exploration when they were young. This might have something to do with parenting, childhood situations and the environment where they grew up.

Parents play a very crucial part in helping their children explore their talents. By encouraging their children to explore their talent(s), they can help their child understand who they are. What they are naturally good at. What they may lack. What they could work on and what will come easily to them.

If you are not lucky enough to know your talent, then you are not alone. It is not too late for you to find the things that can make you happy. And we are here to help you through the process.

Your personality

To find your talent, first you need to know your personality. Everyone has personality embedded inside them. These DNA -like traits form you and make who you are.

The easiest way to find out your personality is to do a psychometric test. And our best recommendation is to use The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).

The MBTI method is easy to understand and very useful.

Basically, MBTI uses 4 letters to describe 16 possible personality types.

The first letter is to describe where you get your energy from.

Are you an Introvert (I) or are you an Extrovert (E)?

I – You get your energy from being alone.

E – You get your energy from being with people.

The second letter is to describe how you take in information.

Do you prefer to focus on the basic information you take in and use your Sensing (S), or do you prefer to interpret and add meaning with your Intuition (N)?

S – You take in information using your five senses.

N – You take in information using patterns, impressions and possibilities.

The third letter is to describe how you make a decision.

Are you a Thinker (T) who prefers to first look at logic and consistency, or do you first look at the people and special circumstances and use your Feeling (F)?

T – You make your decision using logical thinking.

F – You make your decision based on how you feel.

The fourth letter is to describe how you deal with the outside world.

Do you prefer to get things decided by you, this is called Judging (J) or do you prefer to stay open to new information and options, this is called Perceiving (P)?

J – You prefer to have control and plans.

P – You prefer to let things play out by themselves.

You can choose one from each letter and the combination of the four letters can be you MBTI personality. There will be 16 combinations of personality.  For example, you can be an INTJ or an ENFJ, as seen in the chart below.

Now, here are some possible professions to consider based on your MBTI result.   These would be the professions that would most suit your talent and personality.

Do these results resonate with your talent or hobby?

Some people will say yes and some people may still be confused.

There is no right or wrong here because the goal of doing this test is to get to know yourself better.

Tell the people around you about your findings. Ask them if they feel the results are valid.  Your closest friends and family may be able to give you some valuable feedback and input that will also help you unearth your special talent when you discuss these results with them.
